Product Overview
The Pet Bird Candida albicans-Salmonella Ag Combo Test is a lateral flow immunochromatographic assay designed for the rapid differential diagnosis of candidiasis and salmonellosis in birds by detecting Candida albicans antigen in secretions from the oral mucosa and Salmonella spp. antigen in cloaca secretions or feces.
Suitable for:
🐦 Pet birds at risk of infection 🏥 Veterinary clinics & avian hospitals 🐦 Avian rescue & breeding facilities 🔬 Field screening
Key Features
| 🎯 Multi-marker panel | Up to 2 analytes in one test — single specimen, one preparation |
| 🧬 Target | Candida albicans and Salmonella spp. antigens |
| ⚡ Fast result | 5–10 minutes |
| 🔬 Highly selective | Target-specific capture and gold-labeled detector antibodies |
| ❄️ Room-temp storage | 2–30 °C, no cold chain needed |
| 📦 Flexible packs | 10T kit available |
Detection Principle
The test is based on sandwich method lateral flow immunochromatographic assay. The test card features 2 testing windows, each containing a T (test) zone and a C (control) zone that are initially invisible before the assay. When the treated sample is applied, the liquid flows laterally across the NC membrane of each test strip, interacting with pre-coated target-specific reagents respectively. The presence of target analytes in the sample results in a visible T line, while the appearance of the C line indicates a successful assay.
Test Procedure
| 1 | Equilibrate — allow all components to equilibrate to room temperature (15–25 °C) for 10 minutes before use. |
| 2 | Collect sample — collect oral mucosal secretions from the bird with a swab for the CAL window, covering the whole swab tip; collect cloaca secretions or feces with a separate swab for the SAL window, covering about 1/3 to 2/3 of the swab tip. |
| 3 | Prepare sample — insert the CAL swab into the CAL assay buffer tube and the SAL swab into the SAL assay buffer tube, and agitate each swab in its matching buffer to release the sample. Use the liquid supernatant as the treated sample. |
| 4 | Apply sample — remove the test card from the foil pouch and place it flat on a work surface. Transfer 4 drops of the treated CAL sample into the CAL sample well and 4 drops of the treated SAL sample into the SAL sample well. |
| 5 | Read result — start the timer and read the result at 5–10 minutes. Do not move the test card during testing. If there is no flow within 30 seconds, add 1 drop more of the sample. |
Result Interpretation
| C line | T line | Result | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visible | Visible | Positive (+) | Target detected in the corresponding testing window. Any faintly visible T line is considered positive when the C line is present. |
| Visible | Not visible | Negative (−) | No target detected. |
| No line | Any | Invalid | Test failed in the corresponding window; repeat with a new test card. |
The card has two testing windows (CAL and SAL), each evaluated independently with its own specimen and matching assay buffer. A positive CAL window indicates Candida albicans antigen in bird oral mucosal secretions, while a positive SAL window indicates Salmonella spp. antigen in bird cloaca secretions or feces. In each window a magenta C line must appear for the result to be valid; a visible T line together with the C line is positive (any faintly visible T line counts as positive), a C line without a T line is negative, and a window without a C line is invalid.
* The C and T lines appear as magenta-colored lines. For in vitro veterinary use only — results should be considered alongside other clinical information.

FAQ
| Q | Which specimens can be tested? |
| A | Bird oral mucosal secretions (CAL) and bird cloaca secretions or feces (SAL). |
| Q | How long until the result? |
| A | 5–10 minutes after adding the sample. |
| Q | Do I need an instrument? |
| A | No instrument is required for Method 1 (visual interpretation). |
| Q | What if the T line is very faint? |
| A | Any faintly visible T line is considered positive when the C line is present. |
| Q | Can the test card be reused? |
| A | No. Each card is for single use only. |
| Q | What does the C line mean? |
| A | The C (control) line must always appear after sample application, indicating proper test performance. No C line = invalid test, repeat. |
