About Canine Distemper

Canine distemper is a highly contagious viral disease caused by the canine distemper virus (CDV), which affects dogs and other carnivores like foxes and wolves. Belonging to the Morbillivirus genus, it spreads through respiratory secretions, direct contact, or contaminated items. CDV targets multiple body systems, leading to severe and often fatal illness if not treated promptly.

Clinical Signs

Signs vary but commonly include fever, nasal/ocular discharge, coughing, lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, and neurological issues like seizures or tremors in severe cases.

Canivet Distemper Virus Antigen Test

The Canivet Distemper Virus Ag Test is a lateral flow immunochromatographic assay designed for detection of canine distemper virus antigen (CDV Ag) in secretions from canine eye conjunctivitis, nasal cavities, anus, serum or plasma.
