Product Overview

The Feline Coronavirus-Calicivirus-Herpesvirus Type-1 Ag, Feline Coronavirus-Infectious Peritonitis Ab Combo Test is a lateral flow immunochromatographic assay designed for the rapid screening of feline respiratory and systemic diseases by detecting feline coronavirus antigen (FCoV Ag) in feces, feline calicivirus and feline herpesvirus type-1 antigens (FCV Ag-FHV Ag) in secretions from the feline eye conjunctiva or nasal cavities, and antibodies to feline coronavirus (FCoV Ab) in serum, plasma or whole blood together with antibodies specific to feline infectious peritonitis (FIP Ab) in ascitic fluid, pleural effusion, serum, plasma or whole blood.

Suitable for:

🐈 Cats at risk of infection 🏥 Veterinary clinics & animal hospitals 🐾 Rescue centers & shelters 🔬 Field screening

Detection Principle

The test is based on sandwich method lateral flow immunochromatographic assay. The test card features 5 testing windows, each containing a T (test) zone and a C (control) zone that are initially invisible before the assay. When the treated sample is applied, the liquid flows laterally across the NC membrane of each test strip, interacting with pre-coated target-specific reagents respectively. The presence of target analytes in the sample results in a visible T line, while the appearance of the C line indicates a successful assay.

Test Procedure

1Equilibrate — Allow all components to equilibrate to room temperature (15–25 °C) for 10 minutes before use.
2Collect samples — For the FCoV Ag window, collect fresh feline feces with a specimen collection swab from the feline anus or from the ground, with the amount covering about 1/3 to 2/3 of the swab tip. For the FCV and FHV windows, collect secretions from the feline eye conjunctiva or nasal cavities with a specimen collection swab. For the FCoV Ab and FIP Ab windows, collect whole blood with an anticoagulant tube, or separate serum or plasma by centrifugation; alternatively, collect ascitic fluid or pleural effusion with a collection tube for the FIP Ab window.
3Prepare samples — Insert the fecal swab into the FCoV Ag assay buffer tube and the secretion swab into the FCV Ag-FHV Ag assay buffer tube, agitate thoroughly and let the secretion swab stand for 30–60 seconds, then use the liquid supernatant of each tube as the treated sample. For the FCoV Ab and FIP Ab windows, use serum, plasma or whole blood directly; for ascitic fluid or pleural effusion, add 1 drop of the specimen with a disposable dropper into the FIP Ab assay buffer tube and mix thoroughly to obtain the treated sample.
4Apply samples — Remove the test card from the foil pouch and place it flat on a work surface. Transfer 4 drops of the treated fecal sample into the FCoV Ag sample well, and 3 drops of the treated secretion sample into each of the FCV and FHV sample wells. For the FCoV Ab sample well, add 1 drop of serum, plasma or whole blood with a capillary dropper, then add 3 drops of the FCoV Ab assay buffer with a disposable dropper. For the FIP Ab sample well, add 1 drop of serum, plasma or whole blood with a capillary dropper, then add 3 drops of the FIP Ab assay buffer with a disposable dropper; for ascitic fluid or pleural effusion, transfer 3 drops of the treated (diluted) sample into the FIP Ab sample well.
5Read results — Start the timer and read the result at 5–10 minutes. Do not move the test card during testing. If there is no flow within 30 seconds, add 1 drop more of the sample.

Result Interpretation

C lineT lineResultInterpretation
VisibleVisiblePositive (+)Target detected in the corresponding testing window. Any faintly visible T line is considered positive when the C line is present.
VisibleNot visibleNegative (−)No target detected.
No lineAnyInvalidTest failed in the corresponding window; repeat with a new test card.

The five windows are read independently with their own specimens: the FCoV Ag window detects feline coronavirus antigen in feces, the FCV and FHV windows detect feline calicivirus and feline herpesvirus type-1 antigens in secretions from the feline eye conjunctiva or nasal cavities, the FCoV Ab window detects antibodies to feline coronavirus in serum, plasma or whole blood, and the FIP Ab window detects antibodies specific to feline infectious peritonitis in ascitic fluid, pleural effusion, serum, plasma or whole blood. In each window a magenta C line must appear for the result to be valid; a visible T line together with the C line indicates a positive result for the corresponding marker (any faintly visible T line should be considered positive), while a C line without a T line is negative and a window in which no line appears in the C zone is invalid.

* The C and T lines appear as magenta-colored lines. For in vitro veterinary use only — results should be considered alongside other clinical information.

FAQ

QWhich specimens can be tested?
AFeline feces (FCoV Ag), feline secretions from the eye conjunctiva or nasal cavities (FCV Ag-FHV Ag), feline serum, plasma or whole blood (FCoV Ab), and feline ascitic fluid, pleural effusion, serum, plasma or whole blood (FIP Ab).
QHow long until the result?
A5–10 minutes after adding the sample.
QDo I need an instrument?
ANo instrument is required for Method 1 (visual interpretation).
QWhat if the T line is very faint?
AAny faintly visible T line is considered positive when the C line is present.
QCan the test card be reused?
ANo. Each card is for single use only.
QWhat does the C line mean?
AThe C (control) line must always appear after sample application, indicating proper test performance. No C line = invalid test, repeat.
