Product Overview

The Canivet Parvovirus-Distemper Virus-Ehrlichia Combo Test is a lateral flow immunochromatographic assay designed for the rapid differential diagnosis of these pathogens by detecting canine parvovirus antigen (CPV) in feces, canine distemper virus antigen (CDV) in secretions from the eye conjunctiva, nasal cavities or anus, and antibodies specific to Ehrlichia canis (EHR) in serum, plasma or whole blood.

Suitable for:

🐕 Dogs at risk of infection 🏥 Veterinary clinics & animal hospitals 🐾 Rescue centers & breeding kennels 🔬 Field screening

Detection Principle

The test is based on sandwich method lateral flow immunochromatographic assay. The test card features 3 testing windows, each containing a T (test) zone and a C (control) zone that are initially invisible before the assay. When the treated sample is applied, the liquid flows laterally across the NC membrane of each test strip, interacting with pre-coated target-specific reagents respectively. The presence of target analytes in the sample results in a visible T line, while the appearance of the C line indicates a successful assay.

Test Procedure

1Equilibrate — allow all components to equilibrate to room temperature (15–25 °C) for 10 minutes before use.
2Collect sample — collect fresh feces with a swab for the CPV window and secretions from the eye conjunctiva, nasal cavities or anus with a separate swab for the CDV window; collect whole blood into an anticoagulant tube, or obtain serum or plasma by centrifugation, for the EHR window.
3Prepare sample — insert the CPV swab into the CPV assay buffer tube and the CDV swab into the CDV assay buffer tube, agitate to release the sample, and use the liquid supernatant as the treated sample for each window. Use the blood specimen directly for the EHR window.
4Apply sample — remove the test card from the foil pouch and place it flat on a work surface. Transfer 4 drops of the treated CPV sample into the CPV sample well and 3 drops of the treated CDV sample into the CDV sample well; for the EHR sample well, add 1 drop of serum, plasma or whole blood with a capillary dropper, then 3 drops of the EHR assay buffer.
5Read result — start the timer and read the result at 5–10 minutes. Do not move the test card during testing. For the CPV window, if there is no flow within 30 seconds, add 1 drop more of the sample.

Result Interpretation

C lineT lineResultInterpretation
VisibleVisiblePositive (+)Target detected in the corresponding testing window. Any faintly visible T line is considered positive when the C line is present.
VisibleNot visibleNegative (−)No target detected.
No lineAnyInvalidTest failed in the corresponding window; repeat with a new test card.

The three windows are evaluated independently with their own specimens: the CPV window detects canine parvovirus antigen in feces, the CDV window detects canine distemper virus antigen in secretions from the eye conjunctiva, nasal cavities or anus, and the EHR window detects antibodies against Ehrlichia canis in serum, plasma or whole blood. In each window a magenta C line must appear for the result to be valid; a visible T line together with the C line indicates a positive result (any faintly visible T line counts as positive), while a C line without a T line is negative.

* The C and T lines appear as magenta-colored lines. For in vitro veterinary use only — results should be considered alongside other clinical information.

FAQ

QWhich specimens can be tested?
ACanine fresh feces (CPV), secretions from the canine eye conjunctiva, nasal cavities or anus (CDV) and canine serum, plasma or whole blood (EHR).
QHow long until the result?
A5–10 minutes after adding the sample.
QDo I need an instrument?
ANo instrument is required for Method 1 (visual interpretation).
QWhat if the T line is very faint?
AAny faintly visible T line is considered positive when the C line is present.
QCan the test card be reused?
ANo. Each card is for single use only.
QWhat does the C line mean?
AThe C (control) line must always appear after sample application, indicating proper test performance. No C line = invalid test, repeat.
